About Aevolio

Aevolio. How the past actually worked.

Aevolio makes short films about the mechanisms behind history: how people built things, paid for them and kept them running. Not who won which battle, but how the grain reached the city, how the tax was counted and how the message got through.

Each film is under a minute long, so every one gets a page on this site with the fuller explanation, a timeline, what the film left out and the primary sources, linked.

The name

Aevolio is a made-up word. It joins the Latin aevum, an age or a span of time (the root of "medieval" and "eon"), with the end of folio, a page. A page from the ages. Say it ay-VOH-lee-oh.

Who makes it

Aevolio is made by Steven, who writes the code that draws the films and checks every script against its sources before it is recorded. How episodes are made describes the process and the tools.
